Standby Power refers to a system that comes into operation during power disturbances such as blackouts or brown-outs caused by environmental factors. It ensures uninterrupted power supply to critical equipment and can be powered by stored energy in the form of lead-acid UPS batteries within an uninterruptible power supply or by generated power from a generator, or a combination of both in a hybrid system. In this setup, the UPS provides power until the generator becomes fully operational.
Power quality issues can have significant consequences for IT systems and delicate equipment. Even a brief power loss can lead to system crashes, shutdowns, data loss, and damage to components, necessitating expensive repairs. To safeguard against these issues, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is used. In the event of a power failure or voltage dip (brown-out), the UPS immediately switches to battery power, ensuring a stable power supply. Furthermore, the UPS helps regulate power by mitigating spikes and harmonics, addressing a wide range of power issues.
